The main rules
- Keep pellets in a dry, ventilated room.
- Put bags and big bags on pallets, not on concrete or bare ground.
- Keep them away from cold walls where condensation forms.
- Keep bags closed until you use them.
- Cover big bags stored outdoors against rain.
How to spot damp pellets
Damp pellets swell, split and turn to dust. They burn poorly and can block the feed auger. If pellets have got wet, ask your installer before using them in the boiler.
Safety in large stores
Carbon monoxide (CO) can build up in closed pellet stores and silos. Ventilate well before entering, do not go in alone, and follow the safety instructions of the boiler and store manufacturer.
How long they keep
Pellets kept dry stay usable for a long time. The key is protecting them from moisture. More about packaging: 15 kg bags and big bags.
Frequently asked questions

Only briefly, on pallets and well covered against rain. For longer storage a dry room is best.
Why do pellets turn to dust?
Usually because of moisture or rough handling. Keep them dry and avoid unnecessary reloading.
Is a pellet store dangerous?
